DIN & ABA

Like ISO and other certification standards, DIN and ABA are quality management systems/standards applied to the packaging industry.

In the flexible packaging industry, DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) certification and ABA (Australasian Bioplastics Association) certification are standardized tests for the sustainability of flexible packaging product materials and give compliance industry certification licenses to the flexible packaging materials.

What is industrial composting?

Industrial composting, also known as commercial composting, is large-scale composting designed to process large amounts of organic waste. Industrial composting certification by DIN CERTCO can obtain both the "DIN-Geprüft Industrial Compostable" mark and the European Bioplastics Association's Seedling compostability mark, both of which are based on the DIN EN 13432 standard.

The Australian Bioplastics Association (ABA) certification is an important mark in the Australian region. This certification ensures that the packaging material meets the Australian compostability standards, whether in an industrial or home composting environment. ABA certification is particularly important for products targeting the Australian and New Zealand markets, where awareness and demand for compostable packaging is high.

Compostable bags made from DIN-certified packaging materials and home compostable bags made from ABA-certified packaging materials are two of the most popular sustainable packaging types today. Industrial compostable bags are designed to decompose in industrial composting facilities where conditions such as temperature and microbial activity are optimized, returning valuable nutrients to the soil. Home compostable bags will degrade effectively in home composting systems, providing a convenient and environmentally friendly option for waste disposal.
