“Shifting Smarties packaging to recyclable paper is one of our key sustainable packaging initiatives in the confectionery category. It is a further step in realising Nestlé’s ambition to make all of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025 and to reduce its use of virgin plastics by one third in the same period,” said Alexander von Maillot, global head of confectionery, Nestlé.
Patrice Bula, Head of Strategic Business Units, Marketing and Sales at Nestlé, said: “Consumers are looking for more natural and sustainable options when they choose a snack, both in terms of ingredients and packaging. Our YES! bars are made with wholesome ingredients that celebrate and care for Nature’s diversity. We are now relaunching them carefully wrapped in paper, making the packaging easy to recycle and avoiding plastic waste.”
The move to paper packaging is a welcome one. Paper-based packaging is both sustainable and recyclable making it an excellent choice.
Thankfully, it’s become easier than ever to package product with recyclable materials. A lot of companies choose to use recyclable materials for their packaging because they want to minimize their environmental impact or want to reduce their landfill waste output.
