Product Description

A recyclable resealable dog food bag is typically made from a predominantly PE- or PP-based structure with a compatible zipper. It protects dry pet food from oxygen, moisture, grease, odor loss and transport damage while allowing consumers to close the package after opening. BioPack customizes the material, barrier, size, printing and bag format according to the dog food formula, pack weight, shelf-life target and destination market.
Dog food packaging must perform throughout filling, transport, retail storage and repeated use at home.
The bag needs enough mechanical strength to hold its filled weight, sufficient barrier protection for oils and flavors, reliable heat seals and a zipper that continues to close after repeated opening. A recyclable structure must achieve these functions without introducing unnecessary combinations of incompatible materials.
BioPack develops custom recyclable resealable dog food bags for:
Dry dog kibble
Freeze-dried and air-dried dog food
Training treats and biscuits
Jerky and dental chews
Pet food toppers
Powdered pet supplements
Trial and subscription packs
Our pet food packaging range supports capacities from approximately 100 g to 20 kg, with digital and gravure printing, custom zippers, windows, handles and several retail-ready bag formats.
The best structure is not automatically the thickest film or the material with the strongest environmental claim.
For most dry pet food projects, we begin by reviewing five practical factors:
Product fat and oil content
Sensitivity to oxygen and humidity
Filled weight and kibble shape
Required shelf life
Filling, transport and storage conditions
A lightweight treat pouch and a 10 kg kibble bag should not use the same thickness, seal width or bottom construction. High-fat formulas and freeze-dried products may also require more oxygen and moisture protection than standard dry biscuits.
Our objective is to use the simplest structure that can still protect the food reliably during its intended shelf life.
A predominantly polyethylene structure is usually the first option considered for recyclable flexible dog food packaging.
MDO-PE is often selected when a brand needs better stiffness, print clarity and shelf presentation than a basic PE film can provide.
Standard mono-PE may not provide enough oxygen protection for every recipe. A compatible barrier layer or coating can be considered when the dog food contains fish oil, animal fat, meat ingredients, vitamins or oxidation-sensitive flavors.
A PP-based structure may be considered when greater stiffness, heat resistance or a specific regional recycling route is required.
A zipper improves convenience, but it does not replace the original heat seal.
The bag is normally filled through the open top and heat-sealed above the zipper. The consumer removes the sealed top section and then uses the zipper for daily opening and closing.

Two bags with the same capacity may need different structures.
Sharp freeze-dried pieces can require better puncture resistance, while oily kibble may require stronger oxygen protection. Product density also affects bag dimensions and drop-test performance.
Testing with rice, plastic pellets or another substitute does not accurately represent greasy kibble, sharp treats or fine supplement powder.
The zipper position, top opening, film stiffness, coefficient of friction and sealant layer must work with the customer's equipment.
A recyclable material that performs well as a hand-filled sample may behave differently on an automatic filling line.
Statements such as "100% recyclable," "fully recyclable everywhere," or "zero-impact packaging" should not be used without evidence.
BioPack supports pet food packaging projects from material selection and structure development through printing, bag making and quality inspection. Available formats include pet food bags with capacities from 100 g to 20 kg, custom zippers, handles, digital printing and gravure printing.
For growing brands, selected digital-print projects can reduce the initial order quantity and allow several designs to be produced without traditional printing cylinders. Larger repeat orders can move to gravure printing for improved unit economics and consistent long-run color.
Depending on the structure and project requirements, BioPack can support food-contact reports, material specifications, recyclability documentation and other relevant compliance records.
Are dog food bags recyclable?
Many conventional dog food bags combine PET, nylon, aluminum and PE, which makes them difficult to recycle through a single material stream.
Recyclable-ready alternatives usually use a predominantly PE- or PP-based structure with compatible closures. Actual acceptance depends on the complete package and local recycling system.
What is the best recyclable material for dry dog food?
For many dry-food applications, MDO-PE/PE provides a practical balance of seal strength, stiffness, puncture resistance and print quality.
High-fat or long-shelf-life products may require an additional compatible barrier layer.
Can recyclable packaging provide a high oxygen barrier?
Yes. Selected PE-based structures can include EVOH, AlOx, SiOx or other barrier technologies.
The structure should be selected according to the required oxygen and moisture transmission performance and then validated with the actual product.
Does a resealable zipper keep dog food fresh?
A zipper helps limit repeated exposure to air and humidity after opening and reduces accidental spills.
It does not restore the original hermetic seal, so the film barrier and initial heat seal remain important.
Can BioPack produce several designs in one order?
Yes. Digital printing is suitable for smaller quantities, product launches and multiple flavors or recipes. The available quantity depends on the bag size, material and total production volume.
Can the bag include a handle?
Yes. Die-cut, reinforced and separate carry handles are available.
For heavier dog food bags, handle strength should be tested with the intended filled weight.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide the product type, bag size, fill weight, estimated quantity, number of designs, required shelf life, preferred bag style and target market.
Sending an existing bag, drawing or reference photo will help us prepare a more accurate recommendation.
The right dog food bag should protect the recipe, run reliably on the filling line, survive transport and remain convenient after opening. Request a Custom Quote Today!
