Product Description
Custom Absorbency for Fresh Meat, Poultry and Seafood Trays
Fresh protein continues to release liquid after packing. When the absorbent pad is too small, too slow or poorly matched to the product, purge remains visible in the tray and may move around during storage and transport.
BioPack supplies custom compostable absorbent meat pads for fresh beef, pork, poultry, seafood and plant-based protein packaging. The pads are developed around the actual liquid volume, tray dimensions, refrigerated storage period and packing method rather than relying on one standard absorbency grade.
Available in pre-cut sheets, stacked pads and rolls for automatic placement, our absorbent food pads can be adjusted in size, shape, color, permeability and absorbency.
Custom options:
Cellulose-rich absorbent core
Compostable food-contact surface layers
Single- or double-sided liquid intake
Custom pad size and absorbency
Sealed-edge, low-lint construction
Pre-cut sheet, stacked or roll format
Manual and automated tray-packing applications
SAP-free options for suitable absorbency requirements

BioPack compostable absorbent meat pads are designed to collect purge released by fresh meat, poultry and seafood inside retail trays. A cellulose-rich absorbent core holds the liquid, while a permeable surface allows moisture to enter the pad.
The finished construction can be customized according to the food product, expected liquid volume, tray size, storage temperature and packing equipment. Compostability and food-contact documentation are confirmed according to the selected materials and destination market.
The pad uses a three-layer structure designed to absorb and retain liquid released from fresh meat, poultry and seafood.
Top Permeable Layer
Cellophane + PBAT, allowing purge to pass quickly into the absorbent core.
Absorbent Core
Compostable SAP (super absorbent polymer), designed to capture and lock in liquid while reducing leakage inside the tray.
Bottom Protective Layer
Cellophane + PBAT, helping contain absorbed liquid and maintain pad integrity during storage and handling.
For beef steaks, minced beef, burgers, lamb, pork cuts and portioned meat packed in rigid or fiber trays.
For chicken breast, wings, thighs, drumsticks and whole poultry products that may require faster liquid intake and higher absorbency.
For fish fillets, salmon, shrimp, shellfish and other chilled seafood where wet strength and rapid liquid capture are important.
For sausages, deli products, marinated meat and ready-to-cook protein products. Pad compatibility should be tested with the actual marinade and storage conditions.
For refrigerated meat alternatives, plant-based burgers and prepared foods where condensation or formulation moisture may affect presentation.
Instead of selecting a pad by size alone, we consider purge volume, product weight, storage period and pressure inside the package.
The absorbent core can be enclosed within sealed edges to reduce loose fibers, exposed core material and pad separation inside the tray.
The pad is developed to remain intact after absorbing liquid and during removal from the package. Wet strength and retention under pressure can be included in the trial evaluation.
Pre-cut pads are suitable for manual or semi-automatic packing. Stacked pads and slit rolls can be developed for compatible automatic placement systems.
Rectangular, square, round, oval and custom die-cut pads are available. White, black, natural and other colors can be evaluated according to material availability.
BioPack can evaluate the absorbent pad together with the tray, lidding film, overwrap film or vacuum skin packaging format. This helps identify potential problems with sealing areas, pad visibility, compression and machine handling before mass production.

BioPack approaches absorbent meat pads as part of the complete packaging system, not simply as an accessory placed inside the tray.
Our team works with meat processors, seafood packers, food manufacturers, tray suppliers, packaging distributors and private-label packaging companies that require:
Custom product development
Application-specific absorbency
Food-contact material support
Trial samples before bulk production
Sheet and roll supply options
Packing-line compatibility
Coordinated trays and flexible films
OEM and bulk manufacturing
This makes it easier for B2B buyers to manage the pad, tray and film requirements through one packaging development process.
Are the pads fully compostable?
Compostability depends on the complete structure, including the absorbent core, surface layers, seal and any additives. The applicable claim and supporting documents are confirmed after the final material structure is selected.
Can the pads be used for poultry?
Yes. Poultry pads can be developed with faster liquid intake and higher absorbency according to the product weight, purge volume and refrigerated storage period.
Are they suitable for seafood trays?
Yes. Seafood absorbent pads are available for fish, shrimp, shellfish and other chilled products. Wet integrity, rapid uptake and liquid retention are important selection criteria.
Can BioPack supply absorbent pad rolls?
Yes. Roll width, pitch, core diameter, roll diameter and winding direction can be developed around compatible automatic packing equipment.
Do absorbent pads extend meat shelf life?
An absorbent pad manages purge and helps maintain a cleaner package presentation. Shelf life also depends on food quality, hygiene, temperature control, gas composition, film barrier and seal integrity. Any shelf-life claim should be validated using the complete packaging system.
Can I test samples before placing a bulk order?
Yes. Pre-cut samples or trial rolls can be prepared according to the selected size, absorbency and construction.
A suitable meat pad should absorb the expected liquid without adding unnecessary material, thickness or cost.
