BioPack customizes UPM specialty paper stand-up pouches for food, coffee, tea, supplements, snacks and pet products that need a natural paper appearance without giving up essential packaging performance.
Using selected UPM packaging papers, including UPM Solide™ Lucent, we develop paper-led pouch structures with the appropriate oxygen, moisture, aroma and grease barriers for each application.
The paper is only one part of the package. The coating, sealant, adhesive, ink, zipper and other components must also match the product, filling process and intended environmental claim.
This structure-led approach helps brands avoid a common problem in sustainable packaging: choosing a pouch that looks environmentally responsible but does not provide the required shelf life or support the intended disposal route.

UPM specialty packaging papers are developed for printing, coating, lamination and flexible packaging conversion.
UPM Solide™ Lucent has a smooth, dense surface, natural-white appearance and subtle translucency. Compared with conventional brown kraft paper, it creates a cleaner and more refined finish for premium, organic and design-led brands.
Its strength and surface quality also make it suitable for detailed printing and further barrier development.
Depending on the application, the paper can be combined with:
Compostable heat-seal coatings
Cellulose-based barrier films
PLA-based sealant layers
Other compostable or bio-based barrier materials
The final construction is selected according to the product rather than from a fixed standard laminate.

We do not recommend the same paper laminate for coffee, powder, snacks and pet treats.
The structure is developed around the product, shelf-life target and packing process.
Some paper pouches use a conventional plastic laminate beneath the paper and are marketed mainly through appearance.
BioPack reviews the full structure, including the coating, film, adhesive, ink, zipper and accessories, before recommending a sustainability claim.

Coffee Packaging
UPM paper creates a more refined alternative to standard kraft coffee bags.
Coffee structures can be developed with oxygen, moisture and aroma barriers, resealable zippers and one-way degassing valves.
Where a valve or conventional zipper is used, its effect on the compostability claim must be considered.
Tea and Matcha Pouches
The natural-white finish suits organic tea, herbal blends and premium matcha.
The structure can be designed to protect against moisture, oxygen, light and aroma loss.
Nuts, Dried Fruit and Snacks
These applications may require grease resistance, moisture control and dependable seals.
Suitable products include nuts, seeds, granola, dried fruit, biscuits, chocolate and confectionery.
Protein Powder and Supplements
Powder packaging requires careful control of moisture protection, zipper performance and seal contamination.
We recommend testing with the actual powder and filling conditions before production.
Pet Treat Packaging
Paper-forward packaging can support the natural positioning of dry pet treats and premium pet food.
Grease, odour and shelf-life requirements should be evaluated before selecting the final structure.
Are UPM specialty paper pouches fully compostable?
They can be developed with compostable components, but the claim depends on the complete pouch structure. A compostable paper layer alone does not make the zipper, adhesive, ink, barrier and sealant compostable.
Can the pouches be used for food?
Yes. Food-contact materials can be selected for the complete structure. Documentation depends on the paper, barrier layer, adhesive, ink and intended application.
Can they be used for coffee?
Yes. The pouch must include suitable oxygen, moisture and aroma barriers. Whole-bean coffee may also require a degassing valve.
Can the pouch include a zipper?
Yes. Conventional and selected compostable zipper options can be evaluated. The zipper choice may affect the final environmental claim.
Can a transparent window be added?
Yes. A cellulose-based or other compostable transparent window may be considered, subject to barrier and sealing requirements.
Are these pouches recyclable as paper?
The recyclability of the final pouch depends on its coatings, film content, adhesive and local recycling infrastructure. A recyclable paper structure and a compostable structure should normally be treated as separate development routes.
What is the minimum order quantity?
MOQ depends on the pouch size, material structure, printing method and number of artwork versions. Lower-volume digital printing may be available for selected structures.
Can BioPack provide custom sizes?
Yes. Width, height, bottom gusset and filling volume can be customized. A physical sizing sample is recommended before production.
Can the pouch run on automatic filling equipment?
Potentially. Paper stiffness, friction, sealing range and pouch format must be matched to the packing machine. Please provide the machine model, speed and sealing conditions for evaluation.
